The 24th ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches to open the home schedule on Saturday at Ron Rosner Arena, topping the University of Lynchburg, 3-1, before falling to Gettysburg College, 3-0. The Eagles move to 5-4 on the season.
The Eagles opened the day with a 3-1 win over Lynchburg, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-1. After capturing the first game, UMW found itself down by nine points in the second, only to reel off 10 straight points en route to a 25-23 win. After dropping the third, UMW rebounded to cruise in the fourth, 25-16.
Senior
Ally Fletcher led the Eagles with 13 kills, while sophomore
Libby Potter added 12 and senior
Chloe Crosen 11.
Sydney Aiken, who was serving on the long point streak in the second, had three aces, and senior
Emily Flamm led UMW with five total blocks (two solo).Â
Junior
Brenna Campbell posted 22 assists and senior
Lauren Foley added 21, and Foley also led with 12 digs, while Aiken and Campbell had nine each.
In the nightcap, Gettysburg topped the Eagles, 25-20, 29-27, 25-22. Potter led with 11 kills, with Crosen scoring nine and Fletcher eight. Campbell added 17 assists and 10 digs, and Foley scored 14 assists and three aces.Â
The Eagles will be back in action on Friday at the Centre College Tournament.
