The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 1-0 contest to Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 6-4 on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Mustangs tallied the game's lone goal at 21:06. But while the scoring stopped, the action continued to the end of the contest, as each goalie made outstanding diving saves across the goalmouth, and UMW earned 23 penalty corners, but couldn't find the tying tally.
The Eagles led in shots, 23-11, and corners, 23-5. Sophomore goalie
Tori Winans made nine saves for the Eagles, while
Caroline Porter added a pair of defensive saves.
UMW will return to action on Wednesday, when the Eagles host Catholic University at 6:00 p.m.
