Sophomore midfielder
Mackenzie Proffitt scored a pair of second half goals, nearly identical in nature, in leading the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 6-3 on the season.
After two scoreless periods, Proffitt put the Eagles on the board just 1:48 into the third quarter, taking the rebound off a saved shot and firing into the cage. Then, at 53:01, the sophomore provided an insurance tally, again firing in the rebound of a saved shot.
The Eagles stood out defensively throughout, with each line on the field taking away possession throughout. The Eagles led in shots, 16-1, as well as penalty corners, 5-1. UMW goalkeeper
Tori Winans made one save.
UMW will be back in action on Saturday, when the Eagles host Stevenson University at 1:00 p.m.
