Sarah Moore and
Chloe Crosen each scored nine kills to lead the University of Mary Washington volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Virginia Union University on Wednesday evening at Ron Rosner Arena. Game scores were 25-23, 25-21, 25-21; the Eagles improve to 7-5 on the season.
In the first, the Eagles scored the first three points, and either stood tied or held a slim lead until the Lady Panthers went ahead, 17-14, midway through. Trailing 20-15, UMW roared back to score the next seven points, and after VUU tied the score at 23, netted the final two points for the first game win.
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second, before the Eagles fought back to knot the score at 5-5. UMW scored four straight to take a 10-6 advantage, but the score stayed close to even until UMW used three straight points to jump ahead, 20-17, and held on for the 25-21 margin.Â
UMW raced to a 4-0 lead in the third, but Virginia Union raced ahead, 12-9. The Eagles knotted the score at 13-13, and was knotted at 17 when the hosts scored three straight to go ahead for good.
Crosen and Moore each had nine kills, while Moore also led the way with 10 digs.
Lauren Foley posted 20 assists and
Brenna Campbell added 11, and
Emily Flamm scored five service aces.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday when they visit Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference foe Salisbury University at 6:00 p.m.
