Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Castillo Scores Twice for No. 4 UMW Men's Soccer as Eagles Take Down Mount Union, 3-1

It took five games for senior Nelsar Castillo to find the back of the net, but when he did for the first time on Friday night, he made sure to do it twice. The Eagles' midfielder scored twice in UMW's 3-1 victory over Mount Union at City Stadium in Richmond, Va. in the Preston Hirten Memorial Classic, while Juan Vargas added the third goal in a high-scoring first half.

Castillo had taken 11 shots entering Friday night's game this season -- some missing high, while others were saved by opposing keepers -- but he finally got his first goal of the season to drop in during the fourth minute of action to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Sammy Amorose recorded his first assist of the year, giving him 13 points.

In the 33rd minute, senior Carter Berg found Castillo in front of the net for Castillo's second goal of the night, which extended UMW's lead to 2-0. And finally, to cap off the Eagles' high-flying first half, Juan Vargas scored his first goal of the season just a minute later.

Mount Union was able to strike back for a goal early in the second half (55'), but that was all it could muster on Friday night.

Senior keeper Freddy Rogers recorded a pair of saves on the three shots that were sent in his direction.

The Eagles led on offense, once again, besting Mount Union in shots (13-10), shots-on-goal (5-4), and corner kicks (8-4).

Castillo led the way in shots taken (five, three on goal), while Berg finished with three shots (one on goal), Joel Albritton took a pair of shots, while Vargas, Jorday Santana, and Jared Dubose all took one shot each.

The Eagles are back in action at City Stadium in Richmond, Va. on Sunday afternoon against Rhodes to finish out the Preston Hirten Memorial Classic. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
