The 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches in opening the 2024 season at the Virginia Wesleyan University Invitaional in Virginia Beach, downing Kean University, 3-1, before falling to the host Marlins, 3-0.
The Eagls opened with a 3-1 win over Kean, with game scores of 25-22, 17-25, 27-25, 25-16. Freshman
Jocelyn Fang led the Eagles with 17 kills and 14 digs - both of which led the team. Senior
Chloe Crosen added 12 kills against just two errors, and senior
Lauren Foley led the way with 22 assists.
Senior
Emily Flamm scored four kills against one error, and posted five service aces, while junior
Lily Hussman posted two solo blocks and two block assists. Sophomore
Sydney Aiken posted 13 digs, while junior
Brenna Campbell added nine assists and 11 digs.
The Eagles fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19. Crosen led the Eagles with 10 kills against three errors, while Foley posted 16 assists and senior
Hannah Livermon added nine digs.
UMW will return to action on Saturday in Virginia Beach, against Geneva College at noon.
