Pavlech Reaches Double Figures as UMW Women's Basketball Falls to Roanoke

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball's Sophie Pavlech tied her season-best in points with 10 in the Eagles' loss to Roanoke College on Tuesday night, 58-42.

Pavlech now has back-to-back 10-point games after reaching double digits against N.C. Wesleyan last Tuesday in a victory. She shot 2-of-3, which included a 3-pointer and five free throws that she made. Pavlech, too, added four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.

Not much went the Eagles way in the first half as they fell behind 31-22 heading into the halftime break. UMW was 7-of-32 (21.9%), meanwhile the Maroons were 11-of-28 from the floor. In the second half, Mary Washington was 9-of-27 from the floor, which included Pavlech's 3-pointer.

All told, Mary Washington went 16-of-59 from the floor, which included a trio of treys and a 7-for-10 clip from the free throw line. The Maroons, on the other hand, were 19-of-56 with 11 3-pointer's. UMW, though, led the rebounding battle, 46-40, which included 13 on the offensive end, while forcing 17 turnovers on defense. UMW also came away with six steals and six blocks.

Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Anderson Center with a matchup against Southern Virginia.
