The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit with a 15-0 run in the second half to grab the lead, but fell in the final second on a putback, 63-62, on Saturday aftternoon at DeSales University.The Eagles, 5-5 overall, see their three-game win streak snapped.
DeSales shot 52% from the floor in the opening half, but led by jus six points at halftime, despite the Eagles' cold shooting (36.4%). In the second, UMW trailed, 51-38, with 12:41 remaining, but scored 15 straight points, with five players contributing, keyed by six points from sophomore

The run gave the Eagles a 53-51 lead with 5:05 left. The teams traded scores over the next 2:04, and the score stood tied at 59 with 3:11 left. A pair of Bulldog free throws put them up two, but Bates gave the Eagles the lead back, a 62-61, with 1:59 remaining.Â
Both teams then came up empty in each of their next two possessions, with DeSales gaining a steal with 25 seconds left. The Bulldogs missed a last-second layup, but gained the rebound and lay in for the winning points.
Bates led the Eagles with 17 points on 7-12 shooting, including a pair of three pointers. Freshman
Kye Robinson added 15, going 6-8Â from the floor with one triple. Randall added nine points to go with a team-high seven rebounds.
The Eagles heated up in the second half to end the day shooting 25-56 from the floor (44.6%), making 7-19 three point attempts and 5-11 free throws. DeSales shot 21-45 from the field (46.7%), making 9-23 three pointers and 12-14 free throws, and led in rebounding, 37-21. UMW won the turnover battle, committing just seven and forcing 21.
UMW will be back in action on Sunday, when they face 13th ranked Gettysburg College at DeSales at 2:00 p.m.
