The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team dropped a close battle with Eastern Mennonite to conclude the EMU Tip Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va., 54-52.
The Eagles fell behind by seven entering the final period of play before outscoring the Royals by five in the final period of play -- and almost completing the comeback.
Adeline Riner led the way on the scoreboard for the Eagles with 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting, while also grabbing eight boards and adding three assists.
Juliona Mabie finished with her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds on 5-of-14 shooting.
Overall, UMW shot 22-of-77 (28.6%), while holding EMU to just a 15-of-51 clip from the floor (29.4%). But on the boards, Mary Washington dominated as it nearly doubled the Royals' rebound total, 67-35.
The Eagles are back in action for their home opener on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they take on Randolph-Macon in Fredericksburg, Va.
