The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team had three double-digit scorers on Wednesday night, but fell to Randolph-Macon, 52-46, in Fredericksburg, Va.
Both
Adeline Riner and
Megan Baxter each had 13 points, while
Jenna Steadman had 10 of the Eagles' 46 points. Riner went 6-of-14 from the field, while Baxter was 4-for-15 with three 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Steadman was 3-for-10 on Wednesday night.
The Eagles jumped out to an 8-2 lead within the first five minutes before the Yellow Jackets started to come back. At the end of the first quarter, though, UMW only trailed by a point, 13-12.
In the second half, though, Randolph-Macon out-scored UMW by four to take a five-point advantage into the locker room, 31-26. During the first half, Mary Washington was 11-of-30 from the field (36.7%).
In the third quarter, the Eagles were beginning to mount a comeback as they outscored RMC by a point, 10-9. But in the fourth, the Yellow Jackets pulled away to seal their victory.Â
All told, UMW's defense held the Yellow Jackets to zero 3-pointer's on 17 total attempts and just a 31.7% clip from the field. On offense, UMW made 18 baskets, which included four 3-pointer's.
The Eagles are back in action this weekend in Virginia Beach, Va. against Methodist. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
