Jadon Burgess each scored 16 points in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to an 85-71 victory over Kean University at the Townebank Tipoff Tournament a Virginia Wesleyan University on Friday night in Virginia Beach.
The Eagles led by as many as five in the first half, at 23-18, with 6:40 remaining. The Cougars responded with a 15-2 run, and led, 31-25, with 3:55 to go in the first, before an 11-0 Eagle run returned the lead to UMW, and the Eagles led, 36-33, at halftime.
After shooting 50% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, the Eagles turned up the heat in the second, shooting 16-29 from the field (55.2%)Â in scoring 49 points to pull away.
Blue made 5-16 shots, including 1-5 three point tries, and 5-5 free throws en route to 16 points, while Burgess shot an efficient 4-6, making 3-5 threes and 5-5 free throws. Sophomore
Jay Randall reached double figures as well with 12 points on 6-9 shooting from the floor.

Ulysses Young each had four assists, and Blue added three assists and a team-high three steals.
UMW shot 52.6% from the floor (30-57), making 9-21 three point attempts and 16-18 free throws. Kean shot 24-60 from the floor (40%), making 8-22 three point tries and 15-23 free throws. The Eagles controlled the glass, leading 43-26 in rebounds.Â
The Eagles will face host Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday in the tournament championship at 3:00 p.m.
