Fifth-year senior Zack Blue scored a career-high 28 points in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to an 84-58 victory over Maryville (Tenn.) College on Friday evening at the Marietta College Tipoff Tournament. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Eagles rolled to a 44-27 halftime advantage, shooting a blistering 50% from the field in the opening 20 minutes (18-36), connecting on 8-18 three-point attempts. UMW outdid its first half with an impressive 16-29 shooting performance in the second half (55.17%), including 5-13 three point tries.

Blue broke his previous career high of 24 points, scored ironically last year against Maryville, by going 10-16  from the floor, including 8-10 from behind the three-point arc, and addd four rebounds and two steals in 30 minutes. Also in double figures was freshman guard Kye Robinson, who scored 10 points on 4-7 shooting from the floor. Sophomore Jay Randall led wih six rebounds.

UMW shot 34-65 from the floor (52.3%), including 13-31 from three-point land (41.9%), and made all three free throw attempts. Maryville shot 33% (22-66), making 6-29 three point attempts, and 8-10 free throws. The Eagles held a 39-37 edge in rebounding, and forced 13 turnovers while committing 11.

The Eagles will face the winner of Friday's game between Marietta and Wisconsisn Eau Claire on Saurday in the tournament championship.
