Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Scott's Hat Trick Leads UMW Field Hockey Past Centre, 5-0

Junior forward Grayson Scott scored a hat trick and the defensive unit limited opportunities as the University of Mary Washington field hockey team defeated Centre College, 5-0, on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 8-4 overall, and 3-0 in Collegiate Field Hockey Conference action.

Scott opened the scoring at 7:57 into the game, on an assist from senior Paige Stewart. The game remained at 1-0 through the end of the first and the entirety of the second quarter.

The Eagle offense came alive in the third, as Scott scored her second of the day off a loose ball on a saved shot at 32:07. Sophomore Anna Reed scored her first goal of the season at 37:29 on an assist from Makenzie Tutone, turning with Tutone's pass in the circle and beating the goalie. Scott capped her hat trick on a give-and-go with Emma Bernard, who claimed the assist at 42:09.

In the fourth, the Eagles added an insurance tally at 49:15, as junior Kalani Moore scored her second of the season, hitting in a rebound off the keeper's pads.

The Eagles led in shots, 21-7, as well as penalty corners, 13-6. Junior Tori Winans turned in three shutout quarters in goal without a save, and junior Erin Roy added a pair of saves to preserve the shutout in the fourth.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, when they visit St. Mary's College of MD at 6:00 p.m., in a battle of former conference foes.
