Lipton's Double OT Score Lifts UMW Field Hockey Past St. Mary's, 2-1

Box Score Junior midfielder Monique Lipton scored the game-winning goal 3:06 into the second overtime to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-1 victory at St. Mary's College of Md. on Wednesday evening. The Eagles improve to 9-4 on the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, The Seahawks reached the scoreboard first, at 20:11, and carried that lead through halftime. The Eagles drew even in the third quarter, as sophomore Hannah Jagdchew scored her first goal of the season, on an assist from senior Emma Bernard

The game would remain knotted through regulation and one overtime period, as the Seahawks made several defensive saves to keep the game alive. But Lipton scored her first of the season at 73:06.

UMW led in shots, 21-12, and held a 6-4 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalie Tori Winans made seven saves in gaining the hard-fought road win.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, when they visit second-ranked Salisbury University at 1:00 p.m.
