UMW Field Hockey Erupts for 8-0 Win Over Meredith in Home Finale

Seven different players scored goals as the University of Mary Washington field hockey team erupted for an 8-0 victory over Meredith College on Saturday afternoon for Homecoming at the Battleground in the Eagles' regular season home finale. The Eagles improve to 11-6 on the season.

The Eagle offense showed up early and often, caging a pair of goals, from sophomore Hannah Jagdchew at 32 seconds, and junior Grayson Scott at 1:00, on a Paige Stewart assist. The lead swelled to 3-0 at 4:40 on Scott's second tally of the day and 15th of the season, and senior Jessica Wood added another at 10:28 on a Jagdchew assist. Stewart capped the first quarter scoring at 14:28, tipping in a rebound.

After a scoreless second quarter, the Eagles scored with a tally by junior Emma Lehman, assisted by senior Ellie Helbling, at 35:41. Sophomore Mackenzie Proffitt added another off the keeper's pads at 43:23, and senior Emma Bernard capped the scoring at 52:21 on a Stewart assist.

The Eagles led in shots, 36-4, as well as penalty corners, 19-2. UMW goalkeepers Tori Winans, Erin Roy, and Brooke Martin combined for the shutout, with Roy making one save.

Mary Washington will be back in action next Saturday when the Eagles visit Christopher Newport at 4:00 p.m.
