The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team had full control of its 2-0 victory from the opening touch to the final buzzer over Souther Virginia on Wednesday night in Fredericksburg, Va.
The Eagles got a goal from
Madison Bauserman in the first 80 seconds as the midfielder scored off a turnover to put UMW up by a goal. It marked Bauserman's third goal of the season after striking 1:20 into the game.
Mary Washington took a 1-0 lead into the half as it recorded six shots to just one Southern Virginia.
In the second half, the offense came alive as the Eagles took 13 shots -- five of which were on goal -- scoring once when
Naomi Knight lobbed a pass from 30 yards away that found the right foot of
Eliza Franklin, who iced the win.
All told, Mary Washington dominated in shots (19-1), shots-on-goal (9-0), and corner kicks (9-2).
Bauserman, Franklin, and
Emily Box led the way with three shots each, while
Maci Landel and
Erin Reynolds took a pair of shots each.
Ellen Shine,
Cassidy Shaw, Knight,
Samantha Puterio,
Ariel Goldberg, and
Skye Lawhun all took shots for the Eagles in the win.
Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday for Homecoming with a Noon matchup against Franklin & Marshall.
