The University of Mary Washington field hockey team used an early goal from senior
Paige Stewart and a pair more from senior
Emma Bernard in defeating Sewanee, 3-0, on Sunday in Collegiate Field Hockey Conference action. The Eagles improve to 10-6 overall, and 4-1 in conference play.
Stewart opened the scoring at 6:10, on an assist from junior
Grayson Scott. The game remained at 1-0 through halftime.
In the third, Bernard scored at 31:03, on a pass from junior
Monique Lipton, and added another in the fourth, at 50:20, on an assist from sophomore
Katie Royle.
The Eagles led in shots, 12-4, as well as penalty corners, 9-5. Sophomore goalie
Tori Winans made one save in collecting the shutout win.
UMW will be back in action on Saturday when the Eagles host Meredith College at 1:00 p.m. for Homecoming.
