The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team fell behind in the 15th minute, before striking for three times in the second half in a 3-1 victory over St. Mary's on Wednesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.
With the victory, the Eagles now stand at 10-0-1 this season -- the most victories of any Divison III men's soccer program in the country.
The Eagles, who trailed for over 40 minutes, struck in the 58th minute to tie the score, then again three minutes later to break the tie, and once more in the 79th minute to pull away from the Seahawks.
Julian Schmugge found himself wide open on the right side of the goal, after recieving a beautiful cross from
Joel Albritton from the far end of the pitch. Schmugge touched the ball once, dribbled a few steps, then slammed his right foot into the ball that found the left corner of the net to tie the match at one apiece.
Then, using the newfound momentum,
Jordy Santana and
Gabe Francesconi quickly passed the ball to
Nelsar Castillo, who found himself open in the middle of the box in the 61st minute. Castillo wound up and fired into the back of the net to give UMW a 2-1 advantage.
Not satisfied with a one-goal lead,
Blake Hoskins rebounded a shot that deflected off the Seahawks keeper into the back of the net, icing Wednesday's match for Mary Washington.
Keeper
Freddy Rogers recorded his 10th victory of the season, giving him the most of any ranked NCAA Division III team in the nation.
The Eagles led in shots, 19-1, shots-on goal, 6-1, and also corner kicks, 8-0.
