Using a senior-laden lineup, the University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Bridgewater College, 3-1, on Senior Day at Ron Rosner Arena, to improve to 11-13 on the season. Game scores were 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22.
The first game was tightly contested throughout, with the score standing tied 13 times. Bridgewater used a short spurt to take a 22-19 lead, but the home side scored six straight to close out the game, led by three aces from senior
Emily Flamm.
The second game saw UMW overcome a small early deficit to lead throughout much of the action, leading by as many as 17-10, with Bridgewater closing to within 19-18 before UMW used kills from seniors
Claire Jenkins and
Sarah Moore to up its advantage to 22-18. A pair of kills from Flamm capped the game.
After Bridgewater rebounded to take the third, 25-20, UMW responded by breaking open a tight fourth with five straight points to grab a 14-11 lead. Senior
Sarah Moore had a pair of aces in the run.
After Bridgewater knotted the score at 15-15, a kill from senior
Chloe Crosen and an ace from senior
Brenna Campbell upped the Eagle cushion to 18-15, and a pair of kills from senior
Ally Fletcher capped the game and match.
Crosen led the Eagles with 14 kills, while Fletcher scored 11 and Jenkins eight. Senior
Lauren Foley led with 25 assists, while Campbell added 16, and Flamm and Moore each had four aces.Â
Sophomore
Avery Gallahue led with six total blocks, while Flamm and Jenkins each had five. Senior
Hannah Livermon led with 21 digs, including the 1,000th of her career, while Moore added 16, Foley 11, and senior
Madeline Guidon 10.
The Eagles will close their home schedule on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against NAIA foe Washington Adventist University.
