Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UMW Women's Soccer Shuts Out Salisbury on Saturday, 1-0

The University of Mary Washington's women's soccer team recorded its seventh victory of the season on Saturday in a 1-0 win over Salisbury in Salisbury, Md.

The Eagles' backline and keeper Adrianna Thompson recorded the team's seventh shutout of the year -- for Thompson it was her second shutout of the season.

The offense showed up for UMW once more this year as it recorded 15 shots -- seven in the first half, then eight in the second -- and the defense stuffed the Sea Gulls' offensive attack as SU only recorded three shots.

The Eagles couldn't get any of their seven shots in the first half to find the back of the net, taking a scoreless match into halftime. Salisbury only recorded one shot in the first half that was off-net.

In the second half, though, Mary Washington finally broke through on the scoreboard when Eliza Franklin found the back of the net in the 60th minute for Saturday's game-winner.

All told, the Eagles outshot the Sea Gulls, 15-3, while recording seven shots on goal. Salisbury only had one, which was saved by Thompson. UMW, too, led in corner kicks, 5-1.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday night against Southern Virginia on the Turf Field. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
