The Newport News Apprentice School shot a blistering 59% from the floor en route to a 76-74 victory over the University of Mary Washington in men's basketball action on Tuesday night in Newport News. The Eagles fall to 6-2 on the year, and see their six-game win streak snapped.

The Builders jumped out to an early lead, and led by as many as 10 points in the opening half, at 21-11. The Eagles went on a 15-4 run to take a four-point lead into halftime, 39-35. The two teams traded the lead seven times in the second half.

UMW led, 70-64, with less than four minutes left, but committed three straight turnovers, and the Builders assumed the lead for good. The Eagles were led by sophomore Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va., Monacan), who went 8-14 from the floor en route to 18 points. Sophomore Walt Smith (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) and freshman Taylor Johnson (Ashburn, Va., Broad Run) each scored 11 points for UMW, with E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) and Ryan Henderson (Richmond, Va., Highland Springs) each scoring nine points.

Apprentice was led by Isaih Harrison's 28 points and 13 rebounds. Apprentice went 34-58 from the floor, while the Eagles shot 39% at 29-75, including going 7-22 on three point attempts. The Eagles led in rebounding, 47-34, including 24 offensive boards for the visitors.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday at 8:00 p.m. when they visit Marymount University in Capital Athletic Conference action.
