The No. 12 University of Mary Washington women's soccer team fell late to Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va., 1-0.
Bridgewater scored the game's lone goal on a penalty kick after a UMW defender was called for dragging down an attacker in the box in the 82' -- and it proved to be the difference on the scoreboard.
But UMW controlled possession for most of Saturday's game as Mary Washington led the way with 17 shots -- nine of which were on goal. Bridgewater took just seven shots and the goal was the only attempt on net as UMW's defenders worked hard to make shots for Bridgewater hard to come by.
Junior forward
Maci Landel led the way on offense with four shots -- all of which were on net.
Elise McGee (three),
Katie Britton (two), and
Gloria Abiassi (two) all each recorded multiple shots for UMW.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Va. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
