It was first-year standout
Andrew Brittain who found the back of the net once more at the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team took down Bridgewater on Wednesday afternoon, 1-0, in Bridgewater, Va.
Brittain netted his seventh goal of the season as
Jack Sturman found an open Brittain in the 17' to give the Eagles an early lead they would never give back. In the first half, Bridgewater was able to out-shoot UMW, 7-6, but it was Brittain and UMW who found the back of the net.
In the second half, though, UMW was the aggressors as it out-shot Bridgewater, 10-6. Bridgewater had a couple of chances -- one in the first half and one in the second but keeper
Zaine Asim was able to keep Bridgewater off the scoreboard.
Michael Lenhard paced the offense with four shots -- three on net -- while Brittain had three of his own.
Rutley Heinemann and
Daniel Calderon took a pair of shots each, while
Chris Smith,
Darragh Cahill,
Braeden Kelly, Lucas Spiegal, and
Micah Davis each had a shot.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday against Messiah in Fredericksburg, Va. First touch in Fredericksburg is set for 1 p.m.
