After netting three goals against Washington College on Saturday, the University of Mary Washington's first-year forward,
Andrew Brittain, added another goal against No. 10 Lynchburg in a 2-2 draw with the Hornets on Wednesday evening at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va.
Brittain didn't net his goal, though, until early in the second half after both teams went into the break scoreless. In the first half, UMW led the way in possession with seven shots compared to the Hornets' four -- the Eagles had a pair of shots go off the post, while Lynchburg also had one.
But just 10 minutes into the second half, Brittain added his sixth goal of the season -- in just five games -- when the ball was kicked around by a scrum of Lynchburg defenders. Brittain was able to get the Hornets to turn the ball over before he dribbled through a pair of defenders and fired his shot in the back of the net to break the scoreless tie in the 55'. Michael Lenhard did the same thing -- capitalizing off of a Hornet turnover -- to put the Eagles ahead by a pair of goals.
Later, the Hornets were able to tie the game at a pair of piece after they scored in the 76', then followed a minute later with the equalizer to notch the score at a pair of goals.
In an evenly matched game, both teams recorded 14 shots apiece, though UMW was able to put more pressure on the Hornets keeper as it recorded nine shots-on-goal compared to the Hornets' four. Lynchburg led in corners by a pair, 6-4.
The No. 13 Eagles have another ranked matchup next up as they'll travel to Washington & Lee to take on the No. 23 Generals on Saturday in Lexington. First touch is set for 3:30 p.m.
