Box Score The University of Mary Washington field hockey team defeated its second straight top 25 ranked opponent this week, as the Eagles topped Shenandoah University, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in Winchester, Va. The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Eagles jumped on top at 5:52 into the first quarter, as senior Grayson Scott, who scored the game winner in Wednesday's win over #17 Lynchburg, added her second of the season, on an assist from Katie Royle. The Eagles maintained a 1-0 lead to halftime.

Just 1:27 into the third quarter, senior Makenzie Proffitt scored her first of the season, giving UMW a big insurance tally that would turn out to be the game winner. Shenandoah avoided the shutout with a tally with 3:54 left in the game.

Each team had 14 shots in the game, while the Hornets held a significant 11-4 advantage in penalty corners. UMW goalkeeper Tori Winans turned in another strong outing, making seven saves on the day.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host Batten University at 6:00 p.m.
