UMW Field Hockey Blanks Bridgewater, 2-0, in '26 Opener

Senior Anna Reed and junior Caroline Carns provided second quarter goals to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Bridgewater College on Tuesday evening in both teams season lidlifter.

Bridgewater came out strong, providing early pressure, but UMW was able to weather the charge, and was able to find several chances into the first quarter. Then in the second, Reed followed up the rebound of her saved shot by finding the cage at 20:00 for her first tally of the year. Then less than 10 minutes later, freshman Teagan Hastings weaved a cross from the left to Carns, who added the insurance score with the first of her career.

UMW had several chances in the third and fourth, but each time, Bridgewater was able to match the effort with a save.

Mary Washington led in shots, 16-3, as well as penalty corners, 6-2. UMW keeper Tori Winans made three stops on the day in registering the shutout.

The Eagles will return to action next Wednesday when they host the University of Lynchburg at 6:00 p.m.
