The 13th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated #25 Christopher Newport University, 4-2, in the 2026 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at the Hegmann Family Courts. The Eagles win their 28th conference title, and improve to 20-6 on the season.
The Eagles started by gaining the doubles point with a 6-2 win by
Trevor Rein and
Asher Willenborg at one, and a 6-3 win at two by
Jack Riordan and
Evan Fisher.Â
In singles, Willenborg defeated Vincent Truong at one, 6-0, 6-1, and Rein defeated Nathan Russell at two, 6-3, 6-2, putting the Eagles up, 3-0, and one win away. Christopher Newport gained wins at three and five to pull to within 3-2, but freshman
Ryan Gipner pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win at four to clinch the match.
Willenborg was named the tournament MVP, while Rein and Gipner were named to the all-tournament team.
The Eagles will await possible selection to the NCAA Tournament, with selections being announced on Monday.
