The 13th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated UC Santa Cruz, 4-0, on Friday morning in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament held at the Hegmann Family Courts. The Eagles improve to 19-6 on the season.
UMW started swiftly in doubles, as
Jack Riordan and
Evan Fisher defeated Gavin Sonntag and Caden Wong at two, 6-2, and
Will Fromherz and
Ryan Gipner defeated Ignatius and Kahn at three, 6-1.
Singles play saw
Trevor Rein win at one singles over Benjamin Wang, 6-4, 6-0, and
Jack Riordan win at two, 6-2, 6-3, over Gavin Sonntag. The clinching point came from
Evan Fisher at six, as he won, 6-3, 6-3, over Peter Liang.
The Eagles will host Christopher Newport University in the C2C Championship on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
