Mark Sansone Named Head Men's Basketball Coach at Maryville College

Mark Sansone, assistant coach for the 2026 NCAA Division III men's basketball champion University of Mary Washington, has been named head coach at Maryvile College in Maryville, Tennessee.

Sansone leaves Fredericksburg after a highly successful 12 year tenure with the Eagles, having helped the Eagles to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including the third round in 2025 and the national title in 2026. During his tenure, the Eagles finished 186-128, with two Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference championships, coming in the past two years.

"I couldn't be happier for Mark", said UMW head coach Marcus Kahn. "He is going to be a great head coach, and has been ready to take on this role for a while. Maryville hit a home run with this hire".

"I want to thank everyone at the University of Mary Washington, especially Coach Marcus Kahn and our student-athletes," Sansone added. "The past 12 years have been the most impactful of my coaching journey, and this opportunity would not be possible without them."

Prior to Mary Washington, Sansone spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern University (2012–14). There, he served as recruiting coordinator and assisted with on-campus visits, scouting reports, film exchange, travel logistics, game and practice planning, academic monitoring, and backcourt development.

Over the course of his career, Sansone has helped develop more than 20 all-conference selections, seven rookies of the year, and six players of the year, along with numerous honors from VaSID, the NABC, and D3hoops.

Sansone earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Roanoke College in 2011 and later completed a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership at Eastern University.
