The 23rd ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to 17th ranked Carnegie Mellon University on Wednesday morning in Orlando at the USTA National Campus. The Eagles slip to 7-1 on the season.
The Eagles scored the doubles point in dramatic fashion, as
Evan Fisher and
Will Fromherz scored a decisive 7-6 (6) win at two, after
Ryan Gipner and
Jack Riordan gained a 6-2 win at three.
In singles,
Asher Willenborg scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at one, and Gipner gained a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win at five. Three singles went to three sets after the Tartans had scored three wins, but the Eagles fell, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6 in the decider.
UMW will be back in action on Wednesday evening against Cedarville at 5:30 p.m.
