The 20th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated 38th ranked Grinnell College and Randolph College by 6-1 scores on Saturday at the Hegmann Family Tennis Courts. The Eagles improve to 13-2 on the season.
Against Grinnell, the Eagles scored a quick 6-0 win at one, with Asher WIllenborg and
Trevor Rein topping Albert Bostoen and Lucas WIllett.
Jack Riordan and
Ryan Gipner won a 6-4 decision at three to secure the doubles point.
In singles, Willenborg defeated WIllett, 6-2, 6-3, at one, Riordan defeated Garvin Murray, 6-3, 6-4, at three,
Evan Fisher topped Henry Park at four, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Ryan Gipner downed Devansh Punjabi, 6-2, 7-6, at five, and
Ryan Battaglia topped Gervase Ngo at six, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
In the win against Randolph, Gipner and Riordan won at one doubles, 7-5,
Will Fromherz and Rein won at two, 6-0, and Cooper Kehman and
Eli Campbell won at three, 6-4.
In singles, Riordan scored a 6-3, 7-6 win at two, Lehman won at three, 7-5, 6-1,
Ryan King won at four, 6-4, 6-3,
Rithik Manchala won at five, 6-3, 6-4, and Campbell won at six, 6-0, 6-1.
The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they visit sixth ranked Johns Hopkins University at 3:30 p.m.
