UMW Women's Soccer Draws With #2 Washington & Lee, 1-1

After leading with a hard cross through the box that led to a Marymount own goal in last Friday's 2-0 win over Saints, the University of Mary Washington's Olivia Ewing finally netted her first career score on Wednesday -- and arguably the biggest Eagle goal of the season -- in a 1-1 draw against No. 2 Washington & Lee in Lexington, Va.

Ewing's goal gave UMW a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute, but the Generals were able to tie the match just minutes later that led to Tuesday's draw. But the Eagle defense was able to force the Generals into some tough shots.

W&L took the first six shots of the match from the 3:11 mark to the 16:40 mark, but the Eagles were able to counter with three of their own from the 17:23 mark to 18:44, though each of the three didn't require a General save. W&L took the next shot 12 minutes later before Ewing's goal came on the Eagles' next attempt. The Generals took the next four -- the third finding the back of the net -- before Emily Orn saved a game-winning attempt with just three minutes left in the first half.

In the second half, Marla Vera-Sanchez took a shot wide left in the 58' before Emily Box missed an attempt 11 minutes later. Coming out of the half, Eagles defense was stellar as it didn't allow the first General attack to come until the 70' -- a shot that was saved by Orn. A minute later, Orn made her third save of the game to keep the game tied.

The Generals took the final attempt in the 88', but that went wide left.

W&L attempted 11 shots in the first half, but UMW adjusted well as it only yielded three attempts in the second half. Meanwhile, UMW's attack mustered six shots with Ewing's first-half goal getting by the second-ranked Generals.

Orn came away with a trio of saves in goal as all three came on potential game-winners.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday for Senior Day against Lynchburg. First touch at Roy Gordon Field is set for 1 p.m.
