UMW Men's Soccer Scores Six in Blowout Win Over Johnson & Wales - Charlotte on Homecoming Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team had no trouble in its 6-0 win over Johnson & Wales - Charlotte on Homecoming Saturday at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. Five different Eagles scored -- marking the second 6-0 win for UMW this season.

UMW started Saturday off by honoring three seniors on Senior Day in Elliot Berg, Jack Sturman, and Joseph Cruz before Sturman netted the first goal for UMW in the 24' after Christian Rodriguez found him open on the far side of the box to put the Eagles up, 1-0.

Less than a minute later, Gerrard Valoyi came sprinting over the middle of the box as Darragh Cahill led Valyoi with a pass. Valoyi's right foot was able to boot the ball past the Wildcats' keeper to add to the lead, 2-0.

Then, in the 27', Andrew Brittain found himself alone in the box as he ripped a shot past the JWU keeper for his eighth score of the season as he added on to his goal total in his impressive freshman campaign. Another minute passed before Michael Lenhard booted a corner kick from the near side that found the head of Carson Davis to net the Eagles' fourth score of the match.

And finally, to round out the first half at least, Micah Davis led Braeden Kelly with a pass in the box as Kelly found the back of the net for UMW's fifth goal of the first half in the 33'. The final score of the afternoon came after Kelly dribbled around a few defenders before putting another shot into the back of the net in the 72'.

For the afternoon, UMW dominated possession at it took 24 shots (18 of which were on goal), holding the Wildcats to just three shots -- all in the first half -- and one shot-on-goal. Too, the Eagles led in corner kicks, 7-3.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday against Regent at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. First touch is set for 6 p.m.
