Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knight, Shaw Net First Career Scores as UMW Women's Soccer Downs Hood, 2-0

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team (7-1-1) used a pair of goals from first-year Abigail Knight and senior Cassidy Shaw to beat Hood College, 2-0, on Saturday night in Frederick, MD. For the pair of goal scorers, it marked the first time either had scored in a game in their collegiate careers.

The Eagles' first score came from Knight in the 23rd minute as Elise McGee passed the ball out from the box, finding Knight at the top of the box, where she used her right foot to beat the Blazers keeper and put UMW up by a score.

The finisher came on Shaw's goal where both Emily Box and Maci Landel assisted on Shaw's first career goal. For Landel, it marked her sixth assist of the season, tying a career-high she set last year.

The Eagles dominated control of Saturday's game as they took 17 shots, nine of which were on goal. For the second consecutive game, UMW didn't allow its opponent to take a shot, shutting out Hood in shots. The Eagles led in corner kicks, 2-0, as well.

Landel led the way in shots with four of her own, while Skye Lawhun had three. McGee and Emily Box contributed with a pair of shots each, while Madison Bauserman, Ellen Shine, Emma McMullen, Taylor Garofalo, and Knight all had one shot.

Kate Ronzoni posted her second consecutive shutout in net for Mary Washington, running her career record to 2-0.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday as they head up to No. 25 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
