The University of Mary Washington softball team fell in a pair of games to No. 3 Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon.
Game 1 - Eagles lose, 9-1.
Mary Washington's
Taylor Hudson tossed a pair of scoreless innings to begin Sunday afternoon's doubleheader before the Captains jumped out in front by nine in the third.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard with
Shelby Presgrave's RBI single in the fourth that scored
Emily Angel to cut into the deficit.
Hannah Steele,
Brigid Ward, and Presgrave all recorded hits for UMW.
Game 2 - Eagles lose, 2-0.
In Game 2, Mary Washington's
Cierra Foss was solid in the circle, tossing three innings of two-run ball before
Anna Dobson shutout the Captains for the final three innings.
The Captains got on the board in the third inning, then scored once more in the fourth.
Bayly Yerigan reached on hits twice for Mary Washington, while Presgrave and Ward collected a hit each for UMW.
The Eagles are back in action for the Coast-to-Coast Tournament on Friday, May 9.
