The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team continued to excel in the postseason, upending 16th ranked Drew University, 73-58, on Friday afternoon in Mahwah, N.J. on the campus of Ramapo University. The Eagles improve to 14-14 on the season, and advance to Saturday's second round.
The Eagles completely dominated from the opening tip, starting the game on a game-swaying 29-6 run over the opening 12 minutes of action. In that span, UMW made 13-20 field goals, while limiting Drew, who came into the game on of the highest scoring teams in the nation, to just six points and a 3-15 performance from the floor, with 11 turnovers. UMW held a 22 point lead, at 36-14, with 3:51 to go, before Drew netted the last four points of the half to move the margin to 36-18 at halftime.
UMW again started swiftly to open the second half, extending the lead to 25 on a
Zack Blue three pointer with 15:40 remaining. Drew bounced back with a 14-0 run of its own over the next four minutes to pull to within 45-34 with 11:58 left, but the Eagles were able to keep the lead in double figures until a Drew run cut the deficit to 56-47 with 4:29 to play.

Ulysses Young and Robinson returned the lead to 18, at 65-47, with 2:29 remaining, and the Eagles connected on enough free throws down the stretch for the 15-point victory,
Robinson led all scorers with 17 points on 8-15 shooting from the floor, and added five rebounds and four assists. Sophomore
Jay Randall scored 16 points on 7-10 shooting, and added a team-high eight rebounds, while Burgess scored 12 points with a pair of three-point baskets. Sophomore
Kaden Bates was the fourth Eagle in double figures with 10 points.

Marcus Kahn, "We stuck to the game plan for 40 minutes, and the things we emphasized for this game...I'm just really proud of this young group, and what's taken from game one in November to today - these guys are growing and getting better every day."
The Eagles shot 47.3% from the floor (26-55), making 3-12 three-point shots and 18-26 free throws. Drew shot 40% (24-60), making 3-21 three point tries and 7-9 free throws. The Eagles won the important battle of the boards, leading in rebounds, 37-33, and forced 20 Drew turnovers.
UMW will face Ramapo on Saturday at 6:15 pm in the second round.
