UMW Men's Lax Uses Strong Start to Defeat Marymount, 18-10

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team stormed out to a 9-0 first quarter lead, and cruised to an 18-10 defeat of Marymount University on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground on Senior Day. The Eagles improve to 6-4 on the season, running their win streak to three straight.

UMW started with a pair of goals in the first minute, as Dylan Frost scored on a Henry Moag assist at 14:18, and Greyson Reylek followed nine seconds later unassisted after claiming the faceoff. Moag added another at 12:13, and Keller Dillman added another on a Dave Votapek pass at 11:50.

Tanner Boone followed with the Eagles' third score in less than a minute at 11:32, and Brady Leischner followed at 11:16 for UMW's fourth goal in less than 60 seconds. Mike Seraphin-Jones added a score with 9:23 left, and Boone scored on a Moag assist at 7:32. Frost capped the first on a Moag assist with 2:05 left.

Marymount answered to start the second with a pair of goals. Seraphin-Jones posted his second of the day at 12:53, before another Saints goal trimmed the margin to 10-3. Moag scored on an A.J. Lembo assist at 6:40, and Lembo followed with a tally assisted by Reylek ten seconds later. Marymount scored to pull to within 11-4, but Nathan Turney beat the clock in the final seconds to give UMW a 13-4 halftime lead.

In the third, Jackson Rhodes scored at 9:17, and Tommy Jackson followed at 5:29 to push the Eagle lead to 15-4. After another Marymount goal, Boone scored unassisted with nine seconds left. The fourth quarter saw scores from Vince Reaver and James Milligan, as the Eagles finished with an eight-goal victory.

The Eagles led in shots, 54-34, and each team collected 42 ground balls. UMW saw three goalies gain time, with Wyatt Martin allowing four goals with four saves in 30 minutes, and Ryan D'Angelo and C.J. Cohen combining to maintain the lead in the second half.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday when they visit Stockton University in Coastal Lacrosse Conference play at noon.
