The University of Mary Washington men's rugby's second team traveled to Southern Virginia University to play the Knights' first team in their senior night game under the Friday night lights.
SVU started out hot putting in two quick tries using their size advantage. UMW started to slow the Knights down and started putting together a good attack with multiple opportunities to put points on the board, but just nearly missed. SVU continued to use its size to control the game and wear down the Eagles and after the final whistle, the score was 43-0 to SVU, sending their seniors off with a great win, humble sportsmanship, and a powerful haka.Â
Â
UMW was led by captains
Tommy Bush and Themba Martin-Weiler. The boys fought well but SVU earned their win. It was exciting to see some emerging warriors in
Muzi Chirwa and
Cole Cox. The next match for UMW 2's will be at home against Mount St. Mary's 2's.Â
