The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, falling 3-0 at Christopher Newport University, and then topping UC Santa Cruz, 3-0, in Newport News. The Eagles move to 7-18 on the season.
UMW dropped a 25-19, 25-12, 25-16 score to CNU. The Eagles were led by junior
Natalie Brown's 11 kills, while
Sydney Aiken added nine digs and six assists. Brown's 11 kills came against zero errors in 27 attempts, for a .407 hitting average.
The Eagles then faced off against UC Santa Cruz for the second time this season, and came away with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 victory.
Brown once again led the Eagle offense with seven kills, while first year setter
Olivia Fortier posted 17 assists. Sophomore
Alice Holoubek added five total blocks in the winning effort.
UMW will be back in action on October 25, as the Eagles host Johns Hopkins University at 1:00 p.m.
