The No. 9 Mary Washington blew by yet another opponent as the Eagles down Bethany College, 5-0, on a barrage of shots in Fredericksburg, Va. on Friday night.
Joel Albritton (29') and
Mason Landreth netted their first career goals and
AJ Gawel recorded his first career assist on his feed on Landreth in the 88th minute.
The Eagles got out to yet another fast start when
Carter Berg found himself wide open in front of the keeper on a long pass from
Gabe Francesconi in just the second minute of play as Berg found the back of the net for the first time on Friday night. The Eagles, then, scored quickly once more as Adian Shell finshed his first goal of the season on a set piece that came off the left foot of Francesconi, who recorded his second assist of the night.
Albritton, after getting fouled in the box, was awarded a penalty kick and made the most of it in the 29th minute as he struck gold and recorded his first career goal as an Eagle to put UMW up, 3-0.
Berg then found himself open again in front of the net, knocking in a pass from Shell, as he recorded his second brace of the season and fourth goal overall in the 68th minute. And finally, on a breakaway, Landreth netted his first career goal in the 88th minute as Gawel found him open on the left side to push UMW's lead to five.
The Eagles were more than dominant on offense, recording 30 total shots, 17 of which were on goal. Bethany, meanwhile, recorded just two shots -- both of them coming in the second half.
UMW's
Freddy Rogers recorded his second clean sheet of the season, knocking away the only shot that was sent his way. The Eagles, too, led in corners, 11-0, and drew a total of 19 fouls.
Mary Washington is back in action on Sunday afternoon as the Eagles take on Marymount the Battleground Athletic Complex in Fredericksburg, Va. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
