UMW Women's Swimming Falls to Washington & Lee in Season Opener

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team opened the 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon at Washington & Lee University, and came away with a 145-117 loss to the host Generals.

The 200 yard medley relay of Phoebe Root, Thalia Costanza, Margaret Jones, and Sydney Hall grabbed the Eagles' first victory of the day with a time of 1:49.75. Ashley Dyer followed with a win in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:57.90, and Kinsey Brooks gained a win in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:05.69. Jones won the 200 yard butterfly at 2:13.82, and Brooks also claimed the 200 breaststroke at 2:24.41.

Dyer came back to claim the 500 yard freestyle at 5:20.11, and Brooks claimed her third win of the day in the 200 IM at 2:11.37.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they host Southern Virginia University and Marymount University at 5:30 p.m.
