#6 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Wesley, 20-3, on Saturday

The sixth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped Wesley College, 20-3, on Saturday afternoon in Dover, De. The Eagles improve to 10-1 overall, and 3-0 in the CAC. Freshman Micaela Quinn scored four goals on the day for the Eagles.

UMW jumped out on top in the first half as they scored the first eight goals. Paige Haskins got the scoring started as she put away a free position shot just 2:34 into the game. Mackenzie Maguire scored and then Holly Hudson scored on an assist from Maguire less than a minute later to put the Eagles up 3-0.

Allison Davis scored two goals in a row, and then Hudson added a goal on an assist from Madison Hurlburt. Quinn scored her first goal on an assist from Hurlburt with 12:26 remaining. Julia Albert then scored on an assist from Kristen Kunaniec to put UMW up 8-0 with 10:17 remaining. 

Wesley got on the board with 7:34 remaining. From there Kennedy King, Savannah Boyd, and Lauren Fox all tallied goals in the last 5:12 of the half to put UMW up 11-1.

In the second half, Davis added her third goal of the day with 28:57 left. Albert then scored on an assist from Maguire and Maguire added a goal of her own with 26 minutes to play. Hurlburt scored on an assist from Boyd with 23:26 to play that put the Eagles up 15-1.

The Wolverines added a goal with 20:43 to play. Quinn scored her second goal of the day on a free position shot, and then Wesley added another goal with 16:01 left to cut the Eagles lead to 13, 16-3. Quinn tallied her third goal on an assist from King, then King scored her own with 8:59 to play. 

Quinn scored her last goal on an assist from Hurlburt with 4:42 to play. Chloe Wade capped the scoring for the Eagles with 1:55 remaining and the Eagles held on to win 20-3.

Shannon Bremer recorded five saves on the day. Paige Childers and Wade both recorded three draw controls a piece.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they will travel to Frostburg St. at 4 p.m.
