Box Score

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped a 68-64 decision to Dickinson College in overtime on Saturday in the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament, falling to 2-1 on the season.

In the early going, the Eagles fell behind, 9-2, by the 16:10 mark. They responded with a 9-3 run, fueled by Eric Shaw and Johnny Cronin, over the next 4:58 to cut the lead to 12-11.

Both teams continued to exchanged baskets for much of the half, until an Austin Hall three pointer gave the Eagles their first lead of the game at 23-22, with 4:52 left in the first. Dickinson responded quickly, regaining the lead with 3:37 left. Another run from Cronin and Shaw kept the Eagles within two heading into the half down, 30-28.

In the second, the teams continued to trade baskets as Dickinson would never lead by more than five points. After a Cronin layup to cut the deficit to 51-50 with 5:48 left, neither team would score again until the 3:19 mark, when Jacob Williams hit a layup in traffic to give the Eagles their first lead of the half.

The final three minutes of regulation included a wild finish that saw four lead changes and a three pointer from Dickinson that banked in with four seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Dickinson scored the first basket in overtime, before Williams hit another tough layup to even the score at 61-61. Dickinson answered Williams' layup just four seconds later and would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the contest, hitting a three pointer and two free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Shaw led the Eagles with 23 points, seven boards and four blocks. Cronin added 15 on 6-12 shooting, making 3-5 free throws. John Lutkenhaus hauled in 11 rebounds.

The Eagles shot 33.3% (22-66) from the field, making 3-20 three pointers and 17-26 free throws. Dickinson shot 44.8% (26-58) from the field, making 9-16 three pointers and 7-12 free throws.

Mary Washington will return to action on Tuesday, as they visit N.C. Wesleyan at 7:00 pm.
