Senior defender Ashley Stephens scored her first goal to lift the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 5-1-1 on the season.

Stephens scored on an Allie Branum assist midway through the first half, and tightened the defense in recording the shutout. In a defensive struggle, both teams managed just five shots and three corner kicks.

UMW sophomore goalie Sara Armor made four saves in net for the Eagles, while Elizabeth Blanco had one save for the Yellow Jackets.

The eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Hood College at 2:00 p.m.
