Box Score

Junior Kathleen Namey scored a pair of goals, including the game winner on a penalty stroke in overtime, to lead the 14th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-1 overtime victory at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday in Newport News. The Eagles improve to 14-4 on the season.

The Captians caught the Eagles on their heels quickly. Carol Thompson, off an assist from Alexa Weaver, broke past the defense and scored at 1:21 to give CNU the 1-0 lead.

The Eagles regrouped at the defensive level and kept them goalless for the rest of the game. But, the offense was only able to captilize on one of 18 corners.

The Eagles tied the score with a goal from Kathleen Namey at the 63:07 mark off an assist from Haley Kane. This was the break through Mary Washington needed. The buzzer sounded with a tied game. In the net for the Eagles, Megan McLaughin who netted three saves and for the Captains' Lein netted 13 saves.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, the Eagles will be hosting the Captains in the CAC conference semi-final.
