Riester, Farinet Lead UMW Men Past NC Wesleyan, 93-68

Seniors Bradley Riester and Dylan Farinet combined to scored 53 points in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 93-68 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College on Tuesday evening at the Anderson Center. Junior Taylor Johnson added 14 for the Eagles, now 4-1 on the year.

The Eagles shot a blistering 61.5% from the floor in the first half (16-26), including 6-11 three point attempts. The lead changed hands four times in the early going, but a three pointer from senior Marcellus Holley with 14:54 left gave UMW the lead for good. The Eagles used a 10-0 run with 13:55 left, with four players scoring in a 4:05 span to take a 26-15 lead.

The Bishops cut the deficit to six, but an 11-0 Eagle run with 3:55 left gave UMW a 20-point lead at 47-27. Farinet scored nine of the 11 points himself, and the Eagles led, 51-33, at halftime.

In the second half, the Bishops started with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 51-40, but would pull no closer, as UMW used another run, this time a 10-0 spurt, headlined by a pair of Johnson three pointers.

UMW held the lead near 20 points the rest of the way, capping the game on a pair of Isaac Blue free throws that ended a 6-0 run.

"We have agreat core of players who can hit shots and go to the hole strong", said Farinet, after his career-high 26 point night. "We prepare to find open shots and come out and execute the best we can."

Farinet scored 26 points on 6-10 shooting, including two three pointers, and went 12-16 from the free throw line. Riester led all scorers with 27 points on 9-17 shooting with four three pointers. Johnson hit his first four three pointers en route to 14 points, and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Bishops were led by Josh Morrison's 18 points.

UMW shot 56.3% from the field (27-48), including 11-23 three pointers, and went 28-34 from the free throw line (82.4%). NC Wesleyan shot significantly better in the second half to end at 22-49 for the game (44.9%), and made 11-22 three pointers.

The Bishops held a 29-27 edge in rebounding, but the Eagles registered 20 assists and forced 20 NCWC turnovers.

UMW will return to action on December 4 when they visit Frostburg State University at 8:00 p.m. in the Capital Athletic Conference opener.
