Bednarcik, Rader Goals Lead UMW Women's Soccer Past Catholic, 2-0

Sophomore Jessica Bednarcik and senior Tina Rader provided second-half goals to propel the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over Catholic University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles even their record at 5-5.

After a scoreless first half, Bednarcik broke the drought at 67:25 on an assist from Rader. as Rader placed a ball through the defenders to the streaking sophomore, who scored her second goal in three games. Rader then found the nets on an Erin Reynolds assist at 77:00 for an important insurance score.

"(Tina) made a great move down the sideline and made a great pass", said Bednarcik. "I checked into space and stayed composed." Head coach Corey Hewson added, "We changed things up today and the girls responded. We moved some people around, everyone contributed, and now we need to get ready for our next challenge."

The Eagles led in shots, 11-10, and in corner kicks, 6-1. Junior Alyssa Goodwin had five saves in gaining the shutout for UMW.

The eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host Salisbury University in a key Capital Athletic Conference match starting at 1:00 p.m. Saturday will be Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Day at the Battleground.
