Box Score Sophomore guards Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va., Monacan) and Walt Smith (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) each scored 13 points to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 63-51 win over Hood College on Wednesday night at the Anderson Center in Capital Athletic Conference. The Eagles improve to 13-4 overall, and 8-0 in league play.
In a first half that saw poor shooting, the Eagles led 28-21, despite shooting just 29.7% from the floor. Hood shot 26% but also committed 11 turnovers in the first frame.
The second half saw the Blazers come back to take the lead at 32-20 with 13:20 to play, but the Eagles responded with a 17-0 run to assume a 47-32 advantage with 7:22 to play. The Blazers cut the deficit to as few as seven at 58-51 with less than a minute to go, but the Eagles made four free throws down the stretch for the 12-point win.
Riester went 2-7 from the floor but went 8-8 from the line. Smith went 5-12 from the floor and also added four assists. Freshman Sean Armstrong (Richmond, Va., Monacan) had a team-high seven rebounds for the Eagles. Cameron Cook had 15 for Hood.
The Eagles will visit Frostburg State University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
