The University of Mary Washington volleyball team won a pair of matches at the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational on Friday night in improving to 3-0 on the season. The Eagles topped Mary Baldwin College, 25-11, 25-18, 25-20 before topping Capital Athletic Conference foe Stevenson University, 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-19.
In the Mary Baldwin match, sophomore
Laura Gomez led UMW with five kills and three aces, while freshman
Kaitlynn Wickersham added three aces. The Stevenson match saw the Eagles implement a balanced attack, as freshman
Hannah Lawson, Gomez, and sophomore
Karissa Herrick each posted nine kills to lead the way, with Lawson adding six digs and Herrick six blocks.
Becky Conway and
Ellen Smethurst each added seven kills, and
Katie Shiflett scored 33 assists for the Eagles.
Mary Washington will continue at the event on Saturday morning.
