Rader's OT Goal Lifts UMW Women's Soccer Past Bridgewater

Freshman forward Tina Rader (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) scored the game winning goal in the 105th minute of play to lift the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater College on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 2-1-1 on the year.

After a scoreless first half, UMW got on the scoreboard first, as senior Chrissy Reardon (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) scored on an Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) assist at 66:23. The Eagles lead was be short lived however, as Bridgewater tied the score on a goal by Meghan Groos at 79:18.

After the two teams completed regulation and one scoreless extra 10-minute period, Rader scored the game winner with 5:33 remaining in the second overtime unassisted.

Mary Washington outshot Bridgewater, 15-9, and had eight corner kicks to five for Bridgewater. UMW junior Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had four saves, while Bridgewater's Cari Hensley had eight stops.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m.
